Updated approach

Thanks so much for all of your continued support. We have been overwhelmed by your love and your support for our kids. Slight change of plans if you read the blog this afternoon. Please continue to be brief and polite. (I have struggled with both today, to be honest.)

Please focus on:
- US-CIS to see if they can contact their counterparts in Kenya to resolve the impasse between the two governments. Kenya courts and the US immigration hold what appear to be irreconcilable opposing legal positions, even though our countries have agreed to partner together in adoption. As hard as we have tried to play mediator, if we aren't able get these parties to talk, then Kim and I don't have the expertise necessary to resolve this dispute.
- Elijah Cummings office. He is my Congressman, and my best hope of getting help from somewhere. If you voted for him (like I did), maybe you can call and ask if he is sure that absolutely nothing can be done. I am NOT saying that to be sarcastic. But since he is our congressman, he is our best hope of getting any legislative help whatsoever.
- The President's line
- The VP's email
- Does anybody know anybody in Senator McCain's office? Since thus far none of the Maryland Democrats are able to help, maybe desperate measures call for trying a Republican. (OK, bad joke, sorry!)
- Any other politician you know who might care enough to make a phone call asking for a letter. At this point the letter can say John Q Public if there is good stationery and a official-sounding title.

Please stop calling:
- Senator Cardin's office.
- Senator Mikulski's office.
- Congressman Sarbanes office.

THANKS SO MUCH FOR CARING ABOUT OUR KIDS!!!

Hi, Smiths,
It's 4 pm Tuesday, I just called the US CIS. The nice woman, Gwen, told me that their department has contacted the Smith Family & that there is nothing else she can say about the matter. Ugh! Kinda like a punch in the stomach !! Nothing Is Impossible with the Lord ! Will keep praying that God will change the judge's mind before Friday a.m. via whatever means HE chooses to use !!!

Hi, again,
Ok, I just called & spoke to Robert at Sen. McCain's Office. Told him the problem. He will relay the message to the Senator & to Adam Barker (who I am right now sending the copied/pasted Letter straight out of Jeromy's Blog. He didn't even flinch---just listened & provided me Adam Barker's e--mail address. Love, Marti G

Jeromy & Kim
I emailed a friend of mine who was the LD on the Hill for about 15 years and now helps run the prayer breakfast. This was his suggested route: They should try to get on the phone with the immigration case worker in Sen. Mikulski's office (202-224-4654). They have probably done many cases like this before and know how to proceed. You can double up with the House member of the parents as well, but the senate office is more likely to have experience in dealing with.

If Mikulski's office drags their feet at all, go to Sen. Cardin's office (202-224-4524) -- less experienced but maybe more eager

The Congressional offices will need a letter to open the case so they should get one ready.

Thye should also be in contact with the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi, the counselor section --assuming they've already done that.

Many of these cases go to the brink before they are solved so tell your friends not to despair.

Hope that helps somewhat. I have never met you but have heard all about you from many people in the Grace family. I have been reading your story over the past several months and we will keep you in our prayers.

Jeromy and Kim,
It would be helpful if contact information for you (emails or phone numbers?) could be supplied to the officials we are petitioning so they are able to any requests in a respond in a timely manner. Shouldn't that be included in the emailed petitions?

Thanks,
Nancy

I just found out about the urgency of your situation through the Grace Community Church prayer chain. I'm praying for you and have passed on the prayer need to others. We adopted our children and have many friends who have great concern for orphans. I have also contacted my congressman and senators in hopes that the more members of congress are aware of your situation, the more chance there is that something can be done!
